Data Protection Statement

EY intends to supplement its service offering on ey.com with a data protection statement that encompasses all members of the global network of EY companies ("EY companies").

This statement informs you about how we take account of the privacy of all visitors to this site. EY values the lawful processing of data that protects your personal data. We are confident that everyone profits from the free movement of information if the corresponding data is collected and used in a responsible manner.

If you have any questions or concerns that you do not see covered in our data protection statement, please contact us.

Collection, use, forwarding, options

You do not have to register in order to use our site. If you only access ey.com, we do not collect any personal data about you. However, certain information, as described below, is created through the use of cookies.

Under certain circumstances, however, you may want to register in order to receive regular updates from EY. We invite registered users to special events, inform them about our services, publications and products, and contact them for other marketing purposes.

Data that is collected during registration is protected by industry-standard encryption technologies during transmission over the internet. The following services, for example, require registration:

  1. Email notifications
EY offers visitors to its website an email notification service ("email alerts"). Subscribers receive information about new content on ey.com by email. Only basic information, such as your name and your email address, are needed for registration.
  2. You are interested in working at EY
You can register on the EY website if you are interested in working at EY or would like to apply for a posted position. More information about the application process and about the necessary data can be found in the "Careers" section on ey.com.
  3. Thought Center Webcasts
You must register in order to view a Thought Center Webcast (live or in the archive). In order to register, we need your first and last name, email and postal address, country, industry, company, position and telephone number. When registering, you must indicate whether you are a client of EY and whether you would like to be informed of the next Thought Center Webcast by email. During registration, you can activate the automatic login, which will allow you to log into the Thought Center Webcast without having to re-enter your password, provided you use the same computer. We use registration data for an internal analysis in order to, for example, find out who views our webcasts and how we can better meet their needs.
If you are interested in our Thought Center Webcasts but do not want to provide personal data, you can also consult the executive summaries (summaries of the webcasts) at ey.com, which does not require registration.
  4. Surveys
EY occasionally conducts surveys via its website. In addition to their opinion or feedback, survey participants may be asked to provide personal data. The type of data collected changes depending on the survey.
  5. Thought Leadership registration
EY sometimes requires registration before they make its Thought Leadership materials available. Among others, these materials include articles, studies, reports, survey analyses and brochures. When registering, personal data is requested; the forms and the type of data collected may vary depending on the material. EY reserves the right to provide certain Thought Leadership material only to those persons who have supplied the requested information.
  6. Registration for events
EY enables registration for events via its own website or, if necessary, via the websites of third parties. Personal data may be collected through the registration forms for events; the type of data collected varies depending on the event. EY may forward the data of registered persons in connection with an event to third parties. "Third parties" may include, among others, hotels, sponsors, co-sponsors, hosts, organizers (including those accessed via the websites of third parties), speakers and discussion participants. Please see the information for the individual events for how your data will be used.
  7. Entrepreneur of the Year®
Nominations can be submitted for our entrepreneur contest "Entrepreneur of the Year" via our website. Doing so requires the personal details, including the financial results, of the candidate, who must sign the nomination form. Nomination forms are provided to the competition sponsors and representatives of independent national and regional juries so they can select the award recipients. Some data on the nomination form may be used for research, education or other purposes. We will also provide the identity of the candidate or his/her company to the sponsors, the jury and parties associated with them. The candidates must consent to this use of their data in order to be able to participate in the nomination process. The person making the nomination can provide his/her own personal data on the form. If the person making the nomination provides such data, the data is subject to the same terms and conditions as the information about the candidate. For details, please see the materials on EY's entrepreneur competition "Entrepreneur of the Year".
  8. EY Alumni Network
All personal data that former employees provide to EY is mainly used to maintain the connection with this former employee and will not be given to third parties without his/her express consent.
  9. EY Client Portal
If you have received access rights to the EY Client Portal from your contact partner at EY, we recommend that you read the complete data protection statement for this service. During registration on the EY Client Portal, you can view the statement.

Particularly sensitive personal data
EY does not collect personal data in a targeted manner via this website, unless EY is legally obligated to do so, especially as part of the application process. Particularly sensitive data includes information about religious, ideological, political or union views or activities as well as information about health, personal matters or race, about social assistance measures and about administrative or criminal prosecutions or punishments. In some countries, social insurance identification numbers and financial information are also considered particularly sensitive data.

Access to this data is restricted and we institute technical and organizational security measures that allow us to protect data against loss, misuse and inappropriate forwarding.

EY abides by national and European data protection provisions and, where relevant, the safe harbor principles published by the US Department of Commerce. Ernst & Young will only forward personal data to third parties that have provided a written declaration in advance that they can ensure an appropriate level of data protection. We can therefore forward personal data for the following reasons:

  • if forwarding the data is necessary to process your request(see next section, "Links to third parties"); or
  • in order to process a request that involves more than one EY member company; or
  • if you, as a visitor to this site, expressly request this; or
  • if this is necessary because of a court order or another legal or supervisory regulation; or
  • if forwarding the data is reasonably connected with the sale or other disposal of our entire company or parts of it.

Note: EY does not record or collect any personal data or information that has been made available to it through this site in order to process it for marketing purposes or to sell it to outside parties (non EY firms) or to use it for hosting mailings on behalf of a third party.

Amending data and data storage
Information that has been entered by visitors to the site has only been saved in order to provide the requested service. As soon as the service has been provided, all data is deleted in compliance with the EY data storage guidelines. If your details have to be updated or amended or should be deleted from our documents, please contact us with your request at any time.

Cookies and Web-Beacons
Our website uses cookies and Web-Beacons to provide an optimized display and greater user-friendliness. In addition, cookies are used in certain sections of our website in order to better learn about your interests and thus be able to provide you with an individually tailored web offering.

What is a cookie?
A cookie is a file that allows our website to store information (as an identifier) on your computer via your web browser. These cookies are only used when you are on our website. Cookies do not serve to establish the identity of people who only access our website. With the help of cookies, we can determine the user behavior of our visitors and assess their preferences with regard to location and language. This enables us to immediately direct our visitors to the correct country-specific homepage when they access our website. Cookies are also used in other ways.

For example, on the Thought Center Webcast page (webcast section) they carry over the registration details of registered users who have opted for automatic login. Cookies also prevent the need to repeatedly participate in an online survey.
On certain pages of our website, cookies are used in order to understand your interests when using the internet. For example, we can learn what is important to you and adjust our content better to you.

How can I deactivate cookies?
If you do not want to accept cookies from our website, you can deactivate them via your browser settings. If you are not familiar with this function, look for the help function in your browser or ask your browser provider. Please note, however, that you will not be able to use all of the functions of our website if you deactivate cookies in your browser. This affects, for example, automatic login and other functions in our webcast section that are specially tailored to you.

Which cookies do we use?

Depending on the function, the cookies used by our website belong to one of the following four categories:

  1. Basic/necessary cookies
Some cookies that are used are basic to the functioning of our website. This involves, for example, the retention of your login data for certain sections of our website.
  2. Performance cookies
Some cookies support the performance and design of our website. For example, we can determine how often a page is visited or if a certain page of our website was accessed via an advertising banner or in another way.
  3. Functionality cookies
Some cookies help us save the settings selected by you or support other functions when you navigate our website. For example, we can note your selection and thus your preferences for your next visit.
  4. Targeting and tracking cookies
On certain pages of our website we use cookies to better understand your interests when using the internet. For example, we will be able to offer you a service tailored individually to you in the future – such as offering you information that is particularly relevant to you as part of campaigns on third party websites. These cookies collect information about the starting point of your visit, whether content from Ernst & Young was shown to you, which specific ads you saw, whether you accessed our site directly or indirectly, the device you visited our website and what you downloaded. This information is collected in anonymized form by third party providers. In addition, on certain pages we use our website cookies for communication with external data service providers in order to draw conclusions based on your user behavior. By doing so, we will be able to offer information in a more targeted manner in the future. The information that we receive is summarized and anonymous, but it does contain demographic details and other statistical information about user behavior, product interests, life style, etc. Targeting and tracking cookies are provided by trustworthy third party providers. If you would like to learn more about the providers of these cookies and how they work, please contact us.

Google Analytics
The website ey.com uses Google Analytics, a web analysis service of Google Inc. ("Google"). Google Analytics also uses cookies. The information created by the cookie about your use of this website (including your IP address) is transmitted and stored on a Google server in the US. Google will use this information to analyze your use of the website, to compile reports about website activities for website operators and to provide other services associated with the use of the website and the use of the internet. Where applicable, Google will also transmit this information to third parties, if this is legally required or if third parties process this data on behalf of Google. Google will in no case connect your IP address with other Google data. You can prevent the installation of cookies by making the corresponding setting in your browser. Please note, however, that in this case you may not be able to use all features of this website completely. By using this site you acknowledge and agree that Google may process the data collected about you in the prescribed manner and for the aforementioned purpose.

We use the "new" Google tracking code with the _anonymizeIp() function. With this, your IP address is no longer transmitted completely. The last three digits are transmitted anonymously. For example, your IP address will look like this: 103.125.38.***. As a result, it is no longer possible to assign IP addresses directly to individuals, thus ensuring data protection. You can prevent the collection of your data by Google Analytics with future effect by installing the deactivation add-on (http://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=de) for your browser.

EY accepts no liability for the accuracy and use of content that is provided on these servers. Linking to a third party website does not imply a recommendation of or support for the third party or the products and services of the third party service provider by EY.

EY accepts no liability for the storage and/or use of user data on the servers of third party service providers. We recommend that you familiarize yourself with the data protection regulations of the respective third party service provider to which we link.
